Batman: The Dark Night Rise-- Michael Cesarini

Batman: The Dark Night Rises

After the huge success of the previous film “Batman The Dark Night”, audiences held high expectations for the successor.  One may see that Christopher Nolan has become a victim of his own success, through the success of the predecessor. Many regardless of the quality of the “Dark Night Rises” will not be satisfied, however I found it highly engaging, with few parts dragging on and the overall plot fairly easy to follow regardless of if the viewer has followed the series. There are however flaws which are emphasised by the sheer length of the film (2hours 45minutes),  that result in the first hour feeling slow relative to later scenes. At times the film also feels like it is being stretched or quickly brought to an end. Bane(the villan) has the opportunity to kill Batman and doesn’t and towards the end of the film Batman is repeatedly present in the right place at the right time, yet in earlier in the film there is no progress. Overall the film is engaging besides a few minor flaws and being in the inevitable shadow of “The Dark Night” .
Stars: 4/5
