Skyfall

Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in Skyfall, this is the 23rd movie in the Bond series directed by Sam Mendes, also the 50th anniversary of the series which is an awesome achievement. Personally my favourite Bond is Daniel Craig’s there is something about him that really makes Bond believable. I’ll try my best to avoid spoilers, and I’ll touch on some parts of the movie. To get started Skyfall is a well done movie after the events of Quantum of Solace; it’s much more personal home soil. Bond’s loyalty is tested towards M as her past returns to haunt her and it’s up to 007 to save the day by tracking down the target and eliminating the threat.
So the movie starts on with Bond’s latest assignment going wrong and agents around the world are exposed. The opening scene already sets the mood Bond slowly walking down the hallway, in search for the computer hard-drive which is highly sensitive data on it. After a few great action scenes and car chases Bond eventually finds his man on a train and does what he does best finds a way to get on by using heavy machinery to latch onto the train and hop on board with style of course. There is an amazing fight scene above on top of the train which is really satisfying to watch. But with Eve (Namoie Harris) trying to line up a shot to try and help Bond, after M gives the order to take the shot, hits Bond instead and falls a fair way down off the bridge and into a river which leads into the musical theme of the movie with the song Skyfall performed by Adele, which was brilliant and that was just the start! Bond’s characterization really is shown in this movie from when he is shot, he is shows signs of being washed-up wreck, tired, shoot and psychological trauma. Something I really like with the direction of Bond, it’s getting tougher for him in a changing world and it is hard for him to keep up.

M (Judi Dench) is now being criticized by bureaucrats and politicians who want her to retire after MI6 is blown up and forced to relocate, but chooses to stay behind and try an fix her legacy. Javier Bardem’s who plays Silva the main villain, makes his opening scene by walking to Bond who is tied to a chair and really makes an impression both seriously and cringe worthy. I won’t spoil it. He’s a serious person little crazy might I add, he has a interesting past which is connected to M, but one thing to say is that you don’t know what he’ll do next. Ralph Fiennes M’s political rival Mallory, he gets a few good moments towards the end of the film, which will make some Bond fans go “Oh I see what they are doing!”. The return and reinvention of “Q” played by Ben Whishaw, who is Bond’s quartermaster and also an extremely smart tech guy, he gets a few great moments in the movie providing aid and technology to Bond out in the field.

Verdict, it’s what you expect from a Bond film it really lived to the hype, it’s fun and cool while not overdoing it, it respects the tradition of the Bond movies, its definitely a must have for any Bond fan and if you’re new to series defiantly get it and jump on board. I'm not a big fan of score systems but I'll bite I give it 4/5 definitely worth it! On a final note James Bond will return.
