Hangover
Part Two- Michael Cesarini
The Hangover Part Two had big shoes to fill
and an endless combination of expectations after the huge success, laughter and
personalities established in the first film. Director Todd Phillips relocated
the sequel to Bangkok one of the few locations outdoing Las Vegas with
unexpected twists and shenanigans. The plot however feels like a constant sense
of Déjà vu,
secondary characters from the previous film such as the baby has its role
replaced by a monkey as well as other minor characters reappearing with
differed levels of significance, there is little effort to depart from
conventions established in the first film. The most obvious recycling of past
factors being the loss of Doug. Despite the lack of change regarding the plot,
the film for many will achieve consistent laughter via an engaging host of
characters. The seemingly endless array
of absurd problems confronted makes for a film promising to please anyone with
a sense of humour.
If you haven’t witnessed the previous film The Hangover Two may be taken in better light, however if you have it is still a must watch to satisfy the craving for more left with you by the first film. Those familiar with its predecessor will be well aware of the potential circumstances the group find themselves in and at some times may perceive it as predictable. Despite this by using the same formula as the first film its hard to argue anything but a substantial success in the box office. As the saying goes "If it isn't broken don't fix it".
